Five Biases That Affect Hiring Decisions and What You Should Do About It

What We Know, What We’re Learning

Hiring is an incredibly subjective process in which we make quick decisions about candidates based on limited information. The attributes that inform our judgment and decisions-making are shaped by our implicit bias. Implicit bias shapes our professional and social behavior and our decision-making. Even people with the best intentions are influenced by these hidden attitudes, behaving in ways that create hiring disparities. These disparities can be deemed discriminatory, and even unintended discrimination is understood to be the root cause of racial, ethnic, socioeconomic and other inequalities. In this session, Yolanda Butler, Worldwide Industry Services Cybersecurity Officer at Dassault Systemes, will share how to mitigate implicit bias in the hiring process and the benefits of reducing it.
